Home MenuPFAS Treatment Plans
Decentralized Water Treatment Plants are the proposed solution to remove PFAS from the drinking water.
This includes three separate treatment plants and associated water piping across the city to fit into our existing water system. See proposed treatment plant locations map from the feasibility study.
A Water Treatment Plant Siting Study has been completed since the feasibility study.
Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) will be installed to remove PFAS.
Since Hastings’ groundwater also has elevated Nitrate levels, we plan to include Ion Exchange (IX) for Nitrate removal in these plants as well.
An interconnect with the MN Vets Home (currently on their own private system) is planned to give that facility safe drinking water from the treated municipal system.
If we determine construction funding in time to begin construction in 2024, it will take until the end of 2027 to complete all 3 Water Treatment Plants.
Total Project Cost = $68.9M
