Different Systems, Different Uses

The City of Hastings uses two different systems to send a variety of notices to keep you safe and informed. We encourage you to register for the Everbridge Emergency alerts, and to opt in to the Nixle community notices that are valuable to YOU.

Everbridge Emergency Alerts

The City of Hastings is a member of a county-wide group that partners with Dakota Communications Center (DCC) for services. One of those services includes Everbridge Emergency Alerts. When a serious safety emergency happens in our area, our Public Safety responders will assess the situation and determine whether or not people in the surrounding area need to be alerted to a safety issue. If needed, they can request that an Everbridge Alert be sent out to a broad area, or a smaller, targeted area based on the threat assessment. 

We encourage you to register your cell phone to receive text message alerts so you don't miss a potential emergency in your area. Register your phone number, email, and address.

Nixle Community Notices

Nixle is our notification system that allows residents to receive alerts for a variety of non life-threatening notices including: City field closings, outdoor ice rink closings, severe weather warnings, upcoming events and road construction updates. This courtesy service is simple to register for and you may change your message preferences or opt out of the system anytime. *NOTE: Effective 11/15/2021, the City will no longer send Nixle alerts for Snow Emergencies. A snow emergency is automatically in effect when two or more inches of snow have fallen. 

To Register:

Registration is secure, simple, and free. 

• Go to www.nixle.com
• Click "Sign Up Now".
• Sign in through Facebook or create an account.
• Enter an email address and phone number where you would like to receive messages. Choose whether or not you would like to receive voice messages.
• Click "I Accept. Sign me up!"
• Enter your home address to receive local messages.
• Share Nixle with your family and friends.

To Customize:

Change your messaging preferences or opt in to different types of messages such as weather alerts and community notices.

• Log in at www.nixle.com
• Click "Settings" tab
• Select a location from the left-hand menu and subscribe to receive messages from each agency by checking the "Subscribe" option. Adjust which messages by priority level are sent to your email and/or cell phone. You must opt in to receive each type of non-emergency message.

Text Users? Need to Register for an Account?

If you registered for Nixle by texting 55033 to 888777, you will need to request a password to create an online Nixle account.  This will allow you to make changes to your account preferences.

• Simply text "PASSWORD" to 888777, and a password will be provided to you.

How to Unsubscribe from Alerts:

• Unsubscribe from text messages from a single ZIP code or keyword by texting STOP to 888777 and following the prompts.
• Unsubscribe from text messages from ZIP codes and keywords by texting STOPALL to 888777 and following the prompts.
• Click the unsubscribe link found at the bottom of a Nixle email notification.
• Adjust account settings by logging in at local.nixle.com
• Email support@nixle.com and request to be unsubscribed.
