The City of Hastings understands the value of accurate and timely communication. Not only is communication a cornerstone to the City’s adopted CORE Values, but also essential to the success of local government.
The City of Hastings uses a variety of tools to keep the public informed of what is happening throughout the city, including:
- Alerts: The City uses the Nixle and Everbridge platforms to notify the community of important alerts via text, email and voicemail. Sign up and choose your preferences.
- Calendar of Events & Meetings: View City Parks & Recreation department events, other city-sponsored events and official City Council, Commission and Committee meetings.
- City Update: The Hastings City Update online newsletter is published weekly on Wednesdays. Sign up to receive it by email.
- e-Notifications: Sign up to receive email updates from various city departments and commissions that interest you.
- News Announcements: Visit our web homepage and News List to see the latest city news and sign up to receive each announcement by email.
- Rivertown News: Our city printed newsletter is mailed to every household and business quarterly. It is also available online.

Local Media
- The Hastings Journal: This the official newspaper for the city's Legal Notices. The Hastings Journal is a weekly newspaper that covers news about the City of Hastings, its residents, businesses and community organizations.
- The Hastings Star Gazette: This is an online newspaper for the Hastings community.
- Radio Interviews: Each month a City of Hastings staff member is featured as the guest on local AM radio 1460 KDWA’s In Depth Show. This interview is aired on the third Thursday of each month beginning at 11 a.m., and will give you a more in-depth look at what is happening in a particular department.
- Hastings Community Television (HCTV 14): Broadcast locally on Comcast channel 16, you can watch City Council and Commission meetings live or catch reruns throughout the day. Want to watch it from your computer? Visit HCTV on YouTube or Facebook and view the video at your convenience.
