Voter Registration
You must be registered before you vote in Minnesota. You may register or update your registration online or via paper form at least 21 days before Election Day, or at your assigned polling location on Election Day. You must update your voter registration when your legal name changes or if you change addresses.

Election Day Registration
If you do not preregister to vote, you can still register or update your registration on Election Day. You must provide one of the following proofs of residence when registering to vote on Election Day.
Accepted proofs of residence:
- A valid Minnesota Driver's License, Minnesota ID card, or permit with current address.
- A photo ID that does not have your current address along with a document that does have your current address.
Eligible Photo ID:
- MN Driver's License
- MN ID Card
- U.S. Passport
- U.S. Military Card
- Minnesota College or University Student ID Card
- Tribal ID with your signature issued by a tribe recognized by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA)
Eligible Documents with Current Address
- Current Student Fee Statement
- An original utility bill due 30 days before or after the Election, or a rent statement that shows utility expenses
- Eligible Utility Bills Include: Gas, Electric, Water, Sewer, Phone, Television, or Internet Service Provider

Voter Pre-Registration allows 16 and 17 year-old citizens to pre-register to vote.
