The City of Hastings and Tennis Sanitation have teamed up to offer an exciting program designed to involve youth groups to help increase the recycling of mixed papers throughout the community!

How does the program work?

  • Tennis Sanitation has provided a recycling container that is located in the parking lot at Coborn's grocery store, 225 33rd Street W.. Paper materials, including cardboard, magazines, newspapers, junk mail and box board (cereal, cookie and cracker boxes) can be placed in the recycling container.
  • Various youth groups are in charge of the program for a block of three months. During this time, the youth group will be expected to monitor the collection box to make sure it stays clean and to get out in the community to help make people aware of the program. This may include going door-to-door, putting up posters or flyers, and other unique ways you come up with to communicate the program.

How will the group benefit?

  • As a reward for these efforts, youth groups will receive $15/ton for all the mixed papers collected in the recycling box during their three month block of time. On average, groups who participate earn $500-600, depending on the amount of time and effort they put into the recycling program.
  • Additionally, the group is recognized as the “Youth Green Team” by the Hastings City Council and Tennis Sanitation.

How can our group participate?

  • If your youth group is interested in this program, please contact Angela at 651-459-1887 or via email at angelav@tennissanitation.com complete the application form and submit to Tennis Sanitation. Groups selected to participate will be notified well in advance of their three month term.
