Let’s Get Started

Follow these steps to:

  1. Know Your Utility Provider
  2. Find Out How You Can Increase Efficiency and Comfort in Your Home
  3. Discover Rebates and Programs
  4. Explore Financing Options

First Step – Know Your Utility Provider

There are three utilities serving Hastings residents. If you aren’t sure who your provider is for electricity or natural gas, review your utility bills. Below are the utilities serving Hastings:

Electricity Providers

  • Xcel Energy
  • Dakota Electric Association

You can also use this interactive map to help you identify your electricity provider. Simply enter your home address.

Natural Gas Provider

  • CenterPoint Energy

Second Step – Find Out How You Can Increase Efficiency and Comfort in Your Home

Having a home energy audit is a great way to learn about how your home uses energy, and find ways to reduce costs and improve comfort year round. Depending on your utility provider, these energy audit services are available to Hastings residents:

Home Energy Squad®:
Jointly offered by Xcel Energy and CenterPoint Energy, the Home Energy Squad helps you learn about energy-saving opportunities in your home and installs certain energy-saving materials on the spot for no extra cost.

Does your home have drafty doors, an old thermostat, or inefficient incandescent light bulbs? The Home Energy Squad® can fix these things and more in one visit quickly, efficiently, and affordably. Expert technicians take care of all the little things for you, which can add up to big savings on your energy bill.

Home Energy Squad is here to help with a new FREE service - the Virtual HES Visit. An hour-long virtual consultation with our energy experts could help you discover many easy ways to reduce energy use in your home. Sign up online or call 651-328-6220.

In-Home Energy-Saving Audits:
Dakota Electric Association offers energy audits that include an in-home visit and suggestions to improve the comfort, durability, safety, and affordability of your home.

Dakota Electric Association will review a home’s energy use and then conduct a walk-through inspection of the home to identify and recommend energy-saving opportunities. Customers can call Energy Services at 651-463-6243 to discuss their usage over the phone and to schedule a home energy review.

For Dakota Electric customers with electric heat, or who use propane for heat, a similar energy audit is available. Call 651-463-6353 to schedule.

Get water-saving items for your home AT NO COST

The City of Hastings is partnering with CenterPoint Energy on their Do-It-Yourself program. You can order no-cost water-saving items for your home through this program. You can choose from four showerhead styles and two faucet aerator styles, along with other energy-saving items. A faucet aerator is the piece at the very end of kitchen and bathroom faucets where the water comes out.

These water-saving items are very easy to install yourself. Simply unscrew your current showerhead or faucet aerator and screw on the new one (with a little plumbing Teflon tape, if needed). Changing out one showerhead and one faucet aerator can help you save 3,100 gallons of water each year at your home. That’s about 86 bathtubs of water!

Visit CenterPoint Energy’s website at CenterPointEnergy.com/DIY or call 612-315-0622 to place an order and have them shipped to your home for free. Plus, Wi-Fi enabled and learning thermostats are also available at a reduced price. If eligible, you could receive up to a $50 rebate at checkout. Have your CenterPoint Energy account number ready.
