Help for Under-Resourced Households

Many residents in our area are challenged by energy costs that take up a large portion of their household budget. There are resources available to help make these costs more manageable. Some help to reduce the energy needed to be safe and comfortable at home; others help when people need some assistance getting their energy bills paid. 

Minnesota Department of Commerce has recently made changes to the Energy Assistance Program

Apply for Dakota County’s Energy Assistance Program

Energy Assistance Program has new income limits to make it easier for those whose work has stopped or slowed due to COVID-19 to receive assistance paying energy bills. Get in touch with Community Action Partnership of Scott, Carver & Dakota Counties. Visit 651-322-3500 or capagency.org. 

For Xcel Energy or CenterPoint Energy customers:

If your income qualifies, you can use these free services to save money and energy. We recognize that energy costs can add stress to your household budget. That's why we've teamed up with our program service providers, Home Energy Squad®, and Energy CENTS Coalition  to help. The program is customized for your home, and with this program, you could receive:

  • Savings on your energy bills

  • Free advice from an energy expert

  • Free energy-saving improvements

  • Replacement of older appliances with newer models
