 Preparing a Vision for the future

How will Hastings change in the next 10-20 years?  Where will new growth occur?  What might be in store for Downtown and Vermillion Street?  Future growth and redevelopment of the City is guided through the development City Plans.  City staff works with the Council, appointed commissioners, citizens, and businesses to develop a vision for the future of Hastings. 

Comprehensive Plan
The Comprehensive Plan provides a vision for development of the entire city over the next 20 years.  The Plan provides detail on future land use, roads, parks, and utilities.  Soon to be adopted, the Comprehensive Plan is updated every ten years.

Downtown  - HEDRA Property Study
The City's Housing and Economic Development and Redevelopment Authority (HEDRA) adopted a Downtown Property Study in 2021 which outlined proposed redevelopment opportunities and scenarios for land currently owned by HEDRA.  The plan outlines opportunities for additional residential and commercial development geared towards strengthening the downtown area.

Downtown  - Heart of Hastings Plan
The Heart of Hastings Plan was developed in 2003 to guide future redevelopment of Downtown Hastings and surrounding neighborhoods.  The Plan includes design guidelines and concepts for the redevelopment of key downtown properties including Hudson Manufacturing, the TH 61 Bridge, and Post Office Block.  Many ideas from the plan have already been implemented. 

Vermillion Street Corridor Study
Developed in 2018 the Vermillion Street Corridor Study presents a vision for redevelopment along Highway 61 - Vermillion Street. 

Annual Report
The Community Development Annual Report documents planning, building, economic development, and historic preservation activities of the last year.
