In Honor of Officer Albert Jacobson

                               End of Watch  July 10, 1894

On July 10, 1894 Hastings Policeman Albert Jacobson was shot to death in the dark of night while pursuing a burglary suspect through Barker's Addition to the Vermilion Slough area.  

The killer was apprehended and  convicted of first-degree murder.  He was sentenced to death by hanging however his sentence was later commuted to imprisonment for life.  

Officer Jacobson's son, Albert H. "Ollie" Jacobsen (using different last name spelling), then five years old, would grow up to become a Hastings Policeman in 1928 and Chief of Police in 1941.  

Officer Jacobson is the only City policeman to lose his life in the line of duty.
