The Arts movement in Hastings continues to gain momentum: from the formation of the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council and Black Dirt Theater, to the opening of the Hastings Arts Center and the Breakaway Arts Center and Café. Construction has begun on the Artspace Hastings River Lofts which include 37 live/work artist units near the Mississippi River in downtown Hastings.
The City of Hastings recognizes this energy and in 2015 the City Council approved plans for a Public Arts Grant pilot program to support public art that is free and accessible to everyone. A seven member Public Arts Task Force is working to implement this exciting new program. In 2016, the task force selected their first piece of public art to be displayed in the newly remodeled Levee Park on the Hastings RiverWalk. In 2017, the tasks force looks forward to funding another exciting public arts project.
