The City of Hastings has completed a study of its rate structures and fees for municipal utilities (water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater).  The City last performed an in-depth study of these rates and fees in the mid-1990’s, and with changes in usage patterns, development, and infrastructure construction market forces, the City determined that it was appropriate to take up another detailed examination in 2016. In performing this study, the City’s goal was to ensure any new rate structure provided financial stability and sustainability for funding ongoing maintenance and upkeep costs for its municipal utility systems, as well as for long term replacement costs and expansions of the utility systems to accommodate growth.

Status Update
The City Council approved the recommendations cited in the Utility Rate Study Final Report presented by Ehlers, Inc. during their regular meeting on May 15, 2017.  New rates will go into effect in July, 2017.
